NENA Welcomes New Morris Park Board Member

In January, Rich Abdill of the Morris Park neighborhood was appointed to fill a recently vacated seat on the Board of Directors.

Rich shared, “We bought a house in Morris Park a year and a half ago and and knew immediately we were ‘home:’ It’s affordable and easy to get to, has lots of small businesses we love, and is full of friendly, modest people. Nokomis has everything we’ve ever wanted in a place to live.”

“As for my skills and experience,” he said, “the most readily applicable is my training in journalism, which bolstered a lifelong enjoyment of doing the kind of research others find, for lack of a better phrase, “super boring.” Whether it was investigating campaign finance records on Capitol Hill or
evaluating the community effects of proposed state legislation in Florida, I always gravitated toward stories that required some library elbow grease. I also have years of experience in both journalistic writing and technical documentation, and enjoy the challenges of complicated written projects. I copy-edited several documents for NENA last year, and I’d hope those interests would serve the board well going forward. In addition, my work experience in IT infrastructure may come in handy if NENA has unmet needs in web hosting.”

During his time on the NENA Board, he hopes to, “help foster improved resident involvement and awareness by increasing access to neighborhood information. The biggest opportunity I see in the community is to provide people with a consistent window into the issues and events relevant to them: road closures, new restaurants, opportunities for community service.”

We are glad that Rich has joined the NENA team!
