The sixth annual Noko
mis Block Party is gearing up to be even bigger and better than ever! Bring your families and friends and stroll on down to the 34th Avenue South and 50th-51st Street outdoor festivities hosted by Oxendale’s, the Nokomis East Business Association (NEBA), Faith Lutheran Church and McDonald’s Liquors.  Come by from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Volunteers Needed for the Minneapolis Monarch Festival

MB child costume TB 9.15Are you “into” monarch butterflies and pollinators? Are you concerned about their conservation? Do you love a fun, family-friendly party and the summer festival scene?

If you answered “YES” to any of the above, you may want to volunteer at the 7th annual Minneapolis Monarch Festival –Festival de la Monarca™ on September 12 at Lake Nokomis.

The Minneapolis Monarch Festival –Festival de la Monarca™ is possible because of the efforts of over 100 volunteers. There are many opportunities for a rewarding volunteer experience. All volunteers receive an official Festival T-shirt as our way of saying thank you.

If you are interested in volunteering at this year’s Festival, please complete the attached registration form and return it as soon as possible. Volunteers must be at least 14 yrs old and speak English.  We also need bilingual English-Spanish speakers so everyone from Minnesota to Mexico can celebrate with us.

Free Robbery & Assault Prevention Workshop (9/1)

In response to the recent increase in robberies in southeast Minneapolis, NENA and the Minneapolis Police Department are teaming up to present a free community workshop to increase neighborhood awareness and prevention tips.

Mary Brandl, an expert in personal safety, will present a 90 minute jammed-packed presentation on how to deal with attempted robberies and assaults, including demonstrations and audience participation. Police officers and Sue Roethele, our neighborhood’s MPD Crime Prevention Specialist, will be on hand with updates on robberies in our area and to answer questions.

National Night Out 2015 is TONIGHT!

National Night OutNational Night Out is an annual nationwide event that encourages residents to get out in the community, holding block parties and getting to know their neighbors as a way to encourage crime prevention. It’s a great way to promote community-police partnerships and enjoy a Minnesota summer evening surrounded by friends and family.

As with many past National Night Outs, Minneapolis was ranked #1 among all U.S. cities over 250,000 population in 2013. Over 1,480 events were registered in 2014.
